The Hanley Davies Cup - Mixed Doubles Tournament 2015
Last year's tournament proved another great success, with fine weather, tennis and food all contributing to the fun. Thanks to all those who helped make it happen, and congratulations to the winners, Maggie and Paul, pictured here.
How did we do in 2016?
Club Captain Matthew writes:
The Men's East Division 7 team finished 6th out of 9 teams. They started well then had a rocky few matches but pulled through in the last match to get enough points to stay in the same division for next year.
The ladies East Division 3 team also just managed to stay up, having tied for points in seventh place. It came down to a difference of 0.2 per cent of games won to games lost, so proving quite literally that every game counts in the matches.
The winter league faired much better coming top of their group and being promoted two leagues. We had two teams including the juniors who also played well but are unable to continue this year due to exams and university commitments.
A big thank you to Caroline, Stella, Paul and Sid who captained these teams and all those who played and helped organise the events. Well done for staying up in your leagues.
Going forwards, we already have two teams for this years winter league captained by Paul and Liz. These are turning out to be very popular and have been recommended as good social events. If any other members want to get involved please come forward. Stella is stepping down as joint Ladies captain with Caroline but Liz Veats has kindly stepped in to take her place. We will also be entering a mens team this summer and it is important that we get enough support from our members to field a regular team, so please offer your time generously as we need lots of willing players ready to commit.
sLastly a big thank you to Yogi and Nick for maintaining the courts. I'm sure everyone will agree the condition of them has improved considerably this year.
